Abstract In this letter, a low‐profile metasurface (MS) antenna with multi‐polarization and pattern reconfigurability is presented. The mainly consists of two parts, including loop fed by balun, MS excited the coupled aperture. When switching PIN diode rotating MS, reconfigurable ability obtained. While excited, horizontally linear polarized (HLP) wave omnidirectional are Besides, when operated, due to differential phase between orthogonal surface impedance components, can be switched vertical polarization (VLP), left‐hand circular (LHCP), right‐hand (RHCP). Furthermore, could achieve directional pattern. As simulated measured results shown, proposed has an overlapped bandwidth (IMBW) 24.7% for all modes 3‐dB axial ratio (AR) 11.8% L/RHCP modes. Moreover, owns low profile 0.06 λ (under operating centre frequency).
